The Maker of the Light is a book about the faith versus doubt conflict many of us find ourselves in at some point in our lives. Sansu, a little sunflower seed, is removed from the light and plunged into the darkness where she is left alone in the cold, damp soil, and lost in her confusion as to why that happened. Searching for the reason for the seeming blunder, Sansu hears, “The Maker of the Light” who steers her toward trusting in the truth that she is in fact destined to be a beautiful sunflower and instructs her to first believe in that truth that she may achieve that destined reality. Sansu is tried by her circumstances and divided by her reality, and what she is being asked to believe of herself is more than she can comprehend. Chosen is faith over fear, and despite the circumstances of the conditions in which the little seed finds herself, trust and love fuel her beyond the darkness and propel her back into the radiant light which she loved so much. The Maker of the Light exemplifies the path many of us take on our way to believing in things about ourselves that we cannot see in our circumstances, but must trust as being true if we are to grow into the fullness of who we are destined to be, and it shows how life presents our doubts and fears in various forms, and demands that we choose between the reality of our fears and the unseen realities of our faith. This is a must read for all ages as it presents the timeless struggle of faith over fear in a sweet, gentle way.
